Water Feature Descriptions

WATERFALLS – Freestanding waterfalls that drop into a pond can be created by utilizing the dirt from the pond area and building up the desired falls. Sometimes it is necessary to bring in additional dirt to increase the size of the water feature. In some cases it is necessary to create a support for the back of the structure with stone or other building materials. We can also enhance or minimize the sound projection from the feature.

PONDS – There are many options on what your pond can look like when completed. General options/descriptions include basic black pond liner (no overlay or stone), soft stacked smoothed edge stone (approx. 80 to 200 lbs each) set into the pond on top of liner and our preferred method of pond interior is veneering. This is a process where stone (large to small field stone or cobble usually) is set individually into concrete that is placed directly on the liner. This is the most difficult process but provides the most natural looking pond. We have been using this veneering method for over a decade with very little deterioration in the mortar over time. We use a fiber additive in all of our concrete that extends the life and the strength of the mortar allowing for a more solid and long lasting water feature.

No matter what style of pond you choose, we do recommend that there is a minimum of two shelves or step-down in the cut of the pond. This is used for plantings as well as to displace the water/earth weight ratio and also for general safety for animals and children to be able to climb out.

STREAMS – A man-made or naturally formed hill or slope is perfect for a stream. It doesn’t take much of an incline to create a series of free falls and rolling rapids. Streams or babbling brooks can wrap around a patio or seating area, under a walkway or fence and curve around the side of a house. They can end at a pond or disappear and recycle in a pondless system.

PONDLESS WATERFALLS – Pondless Water Features are a great option for those that want to enjoy the sites and sounds of a soothing water feature and also for people who have safety concerns about a pond because they have small children, or for a front yard or public access area. They can be long streams, upright waterfalls or anything in between. They are becoming very popular as they are extremely easy to maintain (about 5 minutes a week) and require NO filtration components.

BUBBLE ROCKS – Individual specimen stones that are core drilled make beautiful stand-alone water features. Almost any rock can be drilled and the water can be controlled to release over the top of the stone to the get the desired sound & appearance. These are usually built with an underground holding vat that recycles the water & is very easy to maintain.
